Hanvon B10 BC10C Noisy Fan Mod

The past few days the fan noise is really getting to me,
specially when i have the tablet on low power sleep,
so yesterday i thought might as well see whats up with the fan,

Now after removing the fan from the unit,
by the way the details of the noisy cpu fan,

Fan -
Adda (made by)
AB04805HX08D300 (model)
DC 5v 0.40A
Hypro Bearing (ball bearing)

First thing which we can clearly see now is the fan is ball bearing base,
which is why we get a consistence of noise rather then the noise level going up and down on most laptops,
so by simply swapping the fan out with silent one the problem can be fixed,

the fan housing isnt light Alu which is another noise conductor and plastic housing would have helped keep the noise down,

Now there are 2 choices you have to lower the fan nose first one is swapping it out,
the 2nd option, well is more easier and cheaper as you stick to the same fan,
but instead solder silicone diode to the fan (red wire) this will reduce the power,
The fan will run fine at 60% power by using 2 diodes 1N4001,
and the noise level will drop by 30%,
Simple to do if you dont know how to solder just take the to any electrical repair store abd have it done there..

  2. i was thinking of doing the swap but the fan which is currently installed,
    is worth 25quid,
solder you can take it to any tv repair or pc repair shop and there only change 2quid to do the solder for you,

if you really want to change it then,

and plastic housing will be the best option as it reduce noise,

have you updated the bios on your hanvon touchpad..

  3. yeah, just updated to 1.8 bios, cannot see any differences. is it difficult to change cooler without any hardware crafts skills`? i am that one, that cann commit suicide only with a screwdriver :-)

  4. you will need a hexagonal screwdriver set,
the hanvon uses 2 different screw size,
there are 5 screws in total,
1 on each corner and 1 under the hanvon badge on the back nearer to the middle,
to peel of the stickers use a knife will peel of nice and easy,
once the cover is off you will notice the hard drive, ram and the fan in the corner,
to change the fan you will need to remove the fan and then install the new fan in the old fan housing(unless you mod it yourself),

if you don't have much skill in this area i wouldn't advice you go and jump straight in,

from what hanvon said in the reply,
we should get a bios table in the upcoming bios release,
with that fan control apps will work,
this might be more of a easier option...

  5. Hi, where is the best place to obtain a replacement fan? Mine is faulty and it cannot be fixed upon inspection. I have attemped two times to contact Hanvon with no response and have sent an email to ADDA corp (the supplier of the fan).

Any assistance of who to contact would be greatly appreciated. The fan is incredibly noisy and the unit shuts down sporadically from overheating at times.
